Aikido Schools of Ueshiba

North Florida Aikikai focuses on the teaching and spread of Aikido, a Japanese martial art with a strong philosophical history, within Tallahassee and the surrounding area of northern Florida.

Established in 1993, North Florida Aikikai (NFA) is a not-for-profit group that offers Aikido classes that both enhance physical prowess and provide an opportunity for personal transformation. Regular Aikido practice involves physical conditioning, fostering martial skill, and increasing personal awareness. Aikido ("the way of harmony") teaches a means of resolving external conflicts through a combination of self-defense tactics and internal strength. NFA contributes to the larger Tallahassee community by teaching a path that replaces the downward spiral of violence with a spirit of harmony and cooperation.

In the spirit of cooperation and community, NFA is also a center for Shorin Ryu Karate (Kishaba Juku) classes under the direction of Sensei Bill Lucas. NFA welcomes inquiries from other organizations that wish to offer classes of any variety of martial and non-martial arts at the NFA facility. Please visit "links" and schedule for more information.

Arnis is also being offered. Modern Arnis is the evolution of indigenous Filipino systems and was created by Prof. Remy Presas. It includes elements from all the major FMA systems (Arnis, Kali, Escrima) but with a comprehensive modern teaching curriculum and adaptations for training safely. Please visit links and schedule for more information.

The seminar and dedication was a great success! Thanks for all the efforts.
Ken's shodan test was awesome, congratulations!

Visitors are always welcome! You may come by any class. Loose fit clothing is suggested if you wish to give it a try, with no obligations. It ususally best to begin on a Saturday if you have no prior martial experience. There are no requirements as to which classes you attend, but attendance at least twice a week is needed for substantial progress.
